However, copper in a wet environment or when exposed to moisture can deteriorate faster. Hence, copper wires are tinned, that is, a thin coating of tin is applied to the wires to make them more durable and offer higher corrosion resistance.

Tin sticks very easily to copper. Applying a layer of tin on copper protects it from oxidation and corrosion increasing the service life of the wires. Tinned copper wires are easy to solder and offer the same conductivity as bare copper.

Once the copper wires are ready, they are encapsulated in a plastic coating which acts as insulation in electrical systems. Plastic greatly reduces the risk of electric shocks and fires by dissipating the heat properly. 

Plastic is preferred as an insulation material for copper wires as they are flexible and can be easily bent around corners. They can be easily fitted in electric boxes and other electrical systems.
